Sudbury Commercial Photography

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Here is another commercial image from one of my recent shoots.  Sometimes it’s tricky to get light where there is no light.  Luckily I have enough small flashes that I can tuck and hide them in places you wouldn’t normally think of (that didn’t sound right).  For me, it’s all about lighting, as lighting can make or break an image no matter how good the subject matter is.

(note to self: When sparks start to fly, make sure you are far enough away so they do not land in your hair…or on your clothes…..or skin)

Getting my fill of Fuller Industrial

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Just finished a day of shooting at Fuller industrial www.fullerindustrial.com for their upcoming website and information Brochures.  I just love the smell of Welding in the morning and of course it’s always cool to shoot anything that sparks (except when it lands in your hair ahm).  Tomorrow I am off to Sturgeon Falls for a shoot at their local hospital (sounds like fun doesn’t it) and then again at our own Laurentian Hospital.

Fuller Industrial Invades The Studio

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Today I photographed the well dressed Jeff Fuller  and his equally well dressed collegues of Fuller Industrial for their new updated bio images.  I have known Jeff for some time (and we also did his family portrait and his wife’s business portrait)  and I always enjoy talking to him about his business and success.  Hard work, motivation, superior product and a great team are the key to rising to the top and Jeff and his team are a driving force.  Thanks again Jeff for being a great role model, and for letting us create your Business Portrait.  I look forward to creating more images with Fuller Industrial in the future.

We shoot so many, sometimes we forget.

Monday, January 25th, 2010

So I am here with my friends sitting beside Jillian and on her desktop is the below image.  I was like, “that is really nice, who took that?”  (and I was serious).   She looked at me like I was a total idiot (and sometimes I am).  I guess I photographed this last June and I completely forgot (see, she thinks we are good friends, but  really we are not), just joking Jillian.  Anyways, I thought I would hop on her computer and post this image of her 3 (soon to be 4) children.

Show Me The Fire & Dog Day #4

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Here is an image I created today for the Cambrian College Fire Services department.  Sometime this summer we will be heading outdoors to get some live fire images, but today (as it was cold) we settled for indoors.  I lit this image with 4 lights and one flash using a collapsed umbrella and 30 inch softbox.  This shoot gave me some great ideas for upcoming images for this years Sudbury Firefighters Calendar.  I look forward creating more images for this Cambrian Department.

Another Day At School + Dog Day #3

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Of course, I am not attending, but documenting.  Today was another series of images for the Cambrian College Programs.  This image was metering the amount of “wind” created by the fan.  It was pretty technical, and of course I tuned myself out (like I usually do).

Dog Day – The Results Are In.

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

We we are all tallied up, the results are in, and the studio is cleaned. :)   Dog Day (In our opinion) was a HUGE success.  First we would like to thank all the people who signed up for dog day to support the local SPCA.  We would also like to thank our “Dog Whisperer” Darla Laframboise for taking the time to spend the day with us at our studio to help out.  We had 26 dogs and not one accident woohooo.  In total we raised $1000 and 22 bags of dogfood (and 1 bag of cat food) for the Sudbury SPCA.  We would also like to thank those who took advantage of the Canvas Wall Portrait, we can’t wait to show you your finished art piece.

Joce and I had a total blast with this promotion and we look forward to photographing more furry friends in the future. You will notice a common “theme” to our dog portraits and this is one that we wanted to instill in our clients perception right from the beginning.  We focused on the dog’s personality and characteristics that are unique to the dog.  All images were black and white on a highkey background with a bit of an artistic processing to the finished image.  This is how we want to portray our Pet Portraits at Hodgins Photography…….this will be our “signature style” if you can call it that.

Over the next few weeks I will posting each dog from the Dog Day sessions so that you can all get a glimps of the Dog Day attendees.  Again, Joce and I would like thank EVERYONE who participated and for those that didn’t but still donated.

P.S  Joce and I have decided that we will offer anyone who adopts a Cat, Dog, Puppy, Kitten or any other animal from the Sudbury SPCA a FREE portrait session with print from our studio.  This will be an ongoing thing for as long as we can.

Patty Cake, Patty Cake, Bakers Man…or Woman.

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

I meet the coolest people with my line of work. Today while shooting some kitchen interiors for Centis Tile I came across Patty (It was her kitchen).  A kitchen where she creates the most delicious of all goodies.    Patty has created “Patty Cakes”  which can be found at www.thepattycakes.ca (which is now going to be revamped for a fulltime business) and I must tell you that some of her creations looked amazing.  As she was showing off her goods haha, I offered to do a couple of quick shots that she can use on her site.  These 2 images were done with windowlight and reflectors right at her kitchen table.  Thanks again Patty for the “take home” muffins, they were delicious!!!!.  Watch out Sudbury, Patty is coming to town. If you would like more information on Patty’s deserts here is the info – patty@thepattycakes.ca  Phone:  705-674-2169
